Comparison

Replit vs Lovable

An honest comparison to help you choose the right tool for your project.

About Replit and Lovable

Replit is a browser-based development environment where an AI agent writes, runs and deploys code in many languages, with a full editor and shell when you want them. Lovable is an AI app builder for the web: you chat, it builds a React app, and its Lovable Cloud backend adds a database, login, storage and functions without a separate account.

Feature Comparison

VibeDream.ai

  • Chat-first like Lovable, with a Python FastAPI backend in the project instead of a hosted database service
  • Publishing is 5 credits per update, with no deployment types to choose as on Replit
  • Makes Phaser games, which neither Replit's agent nor Lovable focuses on
  • Voice notes and screenshots work as prompts

Replit and Lovable

  • Replit: the pricing page lists Core at $20 and Pro at $100 a month, and does not cover publishing costs, which follow deployment type in its docs
  • Replit: it is a full coding environment, so non-coders meet terminals, packages and deployment types sooner than in a chat-only builder
  • Lovable: custom domains and editing code inside Lovable need a paid plan; the free plan has 5 daily build credits capped at 30 a month
  • Lovable: it builds web apps only, and credit cost per message changes with how complex the request is

The Verdict

Sort it by project. A booking tool or customer portal for a small business: Lovable, because Lovable Cloud gives you the database and login without setup. A Discord bot, a scraper or an API: Replit, because it runs real code in many languages. A startup MVP you want to keep coding on yourself: Replit, for the editor and shell. A polished landing page with a signup form: Lovable, which gets there in fewer messages.

How close to the code you want to be

Replit vs Lovable comes down to how close to the code you want to be. Pick Lovable if you want to describe a web app and have it built: it writes a React front end, and Lovable Cloud supplies the database, login and storage. Pick Replit if you want to see files, run commands and use any language: it is a coding workspace in the browser with an AI agent on top. Both can put an app online and both sync to Git.

Prices, backends and code access

  • Best for. Replit: people who want an AI agent plus a full editor, shell and any language. Lovable: founders and designers who want a web app from a chat with as little setup as possible.
  • Starting paid price. Replit Core: $20 a month, or $18 a month billed yearly. Lovable Pro: $25 a month for 100 monthly credits, or $21 a month billed yearly.
  • Free option. Replit's pricing page lists Core, Pro and Enterprise only. Lovable has a Free plan with 5 daily build credits, up to 30 a month.
  • Backend. Replit: you or the agent set up whatever backend you want, plus Replit's own databases. Lovable: Lovable Cloud, which Lovable says is built on Supabase's open-source foundation.
  • Hosting. Replit: several deployment types, including autoscale and static. Lovable: publish from the editor, with hosting usage covered by an included grant for most small apps.
  • Custom domain. Replit: available for deployments. Lovable: Pro plan and above.
  • Code access. Replit: full editor and shell. Lovable: Git sync on every plan, editing code in Lovable from Pro up.

Watching an agent work, or watching a preview

On Replit you open a workspace, describe the app to the Agent, and watch it write files, install packages and run the project. When something breaks you can read the logs yourself, open the shell, or ask the agent to fix it. That is a real strength if you are learning to code or already do, and more to look at if you only want the finished app.

Lovable starts from a chat box and a preview. You ask for a page, it appears, and you keep asking for changes. Lovable publishes example costs on its pricing page: a small style change such as "Make the button gray" costs 0.50 credits, adding sign up and login costs 1.20, and a landing page with three generated images costs 1.70. Plan mode costs 1 credit per message. That gives you a rough feel for how far 100 credits go, though complex requests cost more.

If you want to try both fairly, give each the same prompt and time it. A good test prompt is a booking page for a small business with a services list, prices, a booking form that saves requests, and an admin view that lists them. Note how long the first working preview takes, how many follow-up messages you need, and what each charged.

Lovable Cloud against a database you can see

The backend is where these two differ most in practice.

Lovable Cloud is switched on from inside the builder. Lovable's docs list a database, storage, authentication, realtime and functions, plus secrets, logs and usage tracking. You do not open a separate Supabase account. For a typical customer portal, booking tool or internal dashboard, that covers the hard parts. Cloud usage draws on the same credit balance, and paid plans include a monthly grant of 20 Cloud credits.

Replit gives you more freedom and asks more of you. The agent can create a database, wire up login and add payments, and you can see exactly how it did it. Replit's Pro plan adds database rollback of up to 28 days, which is a useful safety net when an agent changes a schema. Because the workspace runs real code, you are not limited to one stack. A Python data tool, a Node API and a small Go service are all fair game.

Payments on both mean connecting your own payment provider account.

Deployment types or a publish button

Replit separates building from deploying, and its pricing page does not list publishing costs. Its deployment docs describe autoscale deployments billed on usage, static deployments and reserved machines. That is flexible, and it means a busy app costs more than a quiet one. Read the docs for current rates before you launch anything with real traffic.

Lovable keeps it inside the editor. You publish, and Lovable says most smaller apps stay within the hosting grant that comes with the subscription. Apps with heavy traffic or large data can start to cost credits on top. Custom domains and removing the "Edit with Lovable" badge need Pro or above.

A small booking app, priced

Take a small booking app built over a month: one evening of building, a few rounds of changes the next week, and light traffic after launch.

On Lovable Pro at $25 a month you get 100 credits plus the daily grant of 5 build credits. Using Lovable's own examples, a first version with login and a few pages lands in the low tens of credits, and many small edits cost under one credit each. Monthly plan credits expire two months after they are issued, and top-ups last twelve months.

On Replit Core at $20 a month you get $20 toward more powerful models and up to 30 hours of chat on Free Mode, with publishing billed on top by deployment type. A static page costs very little to host, while an always-on backend costs more. Replit Pro at $100 a month adds $100 toward the most powerful models, ten parallel agents and up to 15 collaborators.

Neither price is the whole story. On both, the cost of a month depends on how many changes you ask for and how demanding they are. Watch the usage screen for the first week before you settle on a plan.

Four projects, four picks

  • Booking tool or customer portal for a small business. Lovable. Login and data come from Lovable Cloud without setup.
  • Discord bot, scraper or small API. Replit. These are not screen-based web apps, and Replit runs real code in many languages.
  • Startup MVP you plan to keep coding yourself. Replit. The editor and shell are there from the first day.
  • Landing page with a signup form and a polished look. Lovable, usually in fewer messages.

A third route for games

VibeDream sits closer to Lovable than to Replit. You describe what you want by typing, recording a voice note or attaching a screenshot, and a live preview appears in seconds. Apps are built with React + FastAPI, so the back end is Python rather than a hosted database service. Games are built with Phaser and play on phones and computers, which neither Replit's agent nor Lovable focuses on.

Putting a project online is one screen: press Put it online, pick a name for your vibedreams.ai address, and it is live in a few minutes with HTTPS. Each update costs 5 credits. To use your own domain you add one TXT and one CNAME record and VibeDream turns on HTTPS when it is ready. The deployment guide shows every step.

Where it is not the better fit: VibeDream's one-tap payments are coming soon. There is no free plan; plans start at $49 a month on the pricing page. If you need any language under the sun, Replit is the better tool. If you want a managed backend right now, Lovable is.
