Base44 alternatives, from hosted no-code to code you run yourself

Before you pick from the Base44 alternatives, decide how much of the finished app you want to own. Base44 already gives you readable code and two-way GitHub sync on its Builder plan, but that code expects Base44's backend, so leaving means rebuilding the server side. If that is fine, a hosted no-code tool like Softr or Glide may be the better Base44 alternative for a portal or field app. If you want the code in your repository with a backend you can swap, Lovable, Bolt.new and Emergent are closer. If you want code that runs on any host with no platform behind it, look at VibeDream (which we make), Replit or an AI code editor.

Below, the options are sorted into three bands, from most tied to a platform to most yours. Prices were checked on each official pricing page in Oct 2026.

First, where Base44 itself sits

It helps to be precise about Base44 before comparing anything with it. On paid plans you can edit code inside Base44, and from Builder ($40 a month billed yearly) you get two-way GitHub sync. Base44's docs then show what that code depends on. Local development with the base44 dev command starts a local Base44 backend next to your frontend. The eject command clones an app by creating a new backend on Base44 with its own app ID, copying the table schemas but not the records. Data leaves one table at a time as CSV from the Data page.

So Base44 sits in the middle of the spectrum. More open than a classic no-code tool, less open than a builder that hands you a server you can run yourself. Wix has owned it since June 2025, which some buyers count as stability and others as one more reason to keep an exit open. Our Base44 review covers the rest.

Band one, hosted no-code where the platform runs everything

These tools do not hand you application code at all. You build visually, the vendor hosts the result, and your data can be exported but the app cannot. That sounds like a step backwards from Base44, and for some projects it is the opposite. If the app is a portal or an internal list on top of a spreadsheet, a tool built for exactly that will be faster and harder to break than a chat-built React app.

  • Softr builds client portals, member areas and internal tools on top of Airtable, Google Sheets or its own database, with permissions per user group. Pick it if your data already lives in a spreadsheet and the app is mostly "show the right rows to the right people". See our Softr alternatives guide for how it compares with Glide.
  • Glide turns business data into apps for desktop and phone, and is strong for field teams that need a simple app on their phones.
  • Bubble is the most powerful of the three, with visual workflows and its own database, and the steepest learning curve. Bubble apps run only on Bubble.

Choose this band if you never plan to hire a developer, and if the vendor's pricing per user or per app is acceptable for the next few years.

Band two, AI builders with GitHub export and a managed backend

These feel most like Base44 day to day. You chat, they build, and a hosted backend handles data and sign-ins. The difference is how far the code travels.

Lovable

Lovable builds React apps from chat and includes a backend called Lovable Cloud, with a database, sign-ins, storage and server functions. Git sync works on every plan, and paid plans add code download and custom domains. Pro starts at $25 a month for 100 credits, or $21 a month billed yearly, and there is a Free plan with 5 build credits a day up to 30 a month. Building, hosting and the backend all draw from one credit balance, so a busy app competes with your building budget. It is the most direct swap if you like Base44's managed backend but want a bigger community and a stronger design reputation. More in our Lovable alternatives guide.

Bolt.new

Bolt.new writes and runs a full web project in the browser and shows you the code beside the chat. Pro is $18 a month billed yearly with 10 million tokens and rollover, and Free gives 1 million tokens a month with a 300,000 daily cap. Custom domains need Pro. It suits people who want to see and edit the code as it is written, which Base44 users often miss.

Emergent

Emergent builds full-stack web and mobile apps and hosts them on its own cloud. Standard is $20 a month ($17 billed yearly) for 100 credits and includes GitHub integration, Pro is $200 a month ($167 billed yearly) for 750, and the Free plan gives 10 credits a month without GitHub. Check what a live app costs to keep running before you commit, since hosting draws on credits too.

Choose this band if you want Base44's speed plus a repository you control, and you are comfortable that the backend is still a managed service you would need to replace or reconnect if you leave.

Band three, code you can run anywhere

At this end, the builder writes a complete project, frontend and backend, that runs without the platform. You trade some convenience for that.

VibeDream

VibeDream turns a chat, a voice note or a screenshot into a web app with a live preview. Apps use React for the screens and FastAPI, a Python framework, for the backend, and you can read and edit both in the built-in code editor. Download the whole project as a ZIP at any time, or sync it to your own GitHub repository, and host it wherever you like. Putting it online on VibeDream costs 5 credits per publish, with hosting, HTTPS and a your-app.vibedreams.ai address included. Your own domain connects with a TXT and a CNAME record on a www or subdomain address.

Where it is weaker than Base44 today: Base44 gives you user lists and a data browser on the first message. VibeDream's built-in login and database work with one tap, and its one-tap payments are coming soon. It also costs more to start, at $49 a month for 60 credits on All Access Mini or $97 for 150 credits on All Access, with no free plan. See VibeDream pricing.

Replit

Replit is a full coding workspace in the browser with an AI agent on top. Core is $20 a month ($18 billed yearly) and Pro is $100 a month ($90 billed yearly). Any language works, and everything in the workspace is yours to export. Pick it if you are ready to read code and want the agent to help rather than do everything. Our Replit alternatives guide splits the options for coders and non-coders.

An AI code editor

Cursor, Claude Code and GitHub Copilot sit at the far end: the code lives on your machine from the first line. They are the right choice for developers, and the wrong one for someone who has never run a terminal.

Which band fits your project

  • A portal or internal list on top of a spreadsheet: band one, usually Softr or Glide.
  • Base44's experience with your code in GitHub: band two, usually Lovable.
  • A Python backend, code that runs without the platform, or a browser game as well as apps: VibeDream.
  • You write code yourself: Replit or an AI editor.

One test settles most decisions. Run this prompt on Base44 and your shortlisted alternative on the same day:

A simple CRM for a small agency. A list of clients, a page per client with notes and a status, a dashboard that counts clients by status, and only signed-in team members can see it.

Then do the step most comparisons skip: take the exported code and try to run it on your own machine without the platform. That single check tells you which band a tool really belongs in.

Moving an existing app off Base44

  • Export each table as CSV from the Data page first. Records are not copied by eject or GitHub sync.
  • Connect GitHub on Builder or higher, or download the source, and treat it as a reference for screens and logic.
  • Write down your secrets, integrations and scheduled workflows. They stay in Base44.
  • Rebuild in the new tool. On VibeDream, describe the app, attach a screenshot of each Base44 screen, paste your table structure into the chat and ask it to load the CSV files.
  • Point your domain at the new app only after you have checked every screen, and keep the Base44 app running until then. VibeDream's guide to putting an app online covers the domain step.
