The best app builder for you: 9 AI builders compared

Two questions pick the best app builder

The best app builder depends on two questions: do you want to work with code, and what are you building? For a web app from plain sentences with a managed backend, Lovable and Base44 are the strongest picks. For a full coding environment that an agent drives, Replit. For polished Next.js front ends on Vercel, v0. For the most room on a free tier, Bolt.new. For web plus mobile from a chat, Emergent. For deep visual no-code and native mobile, Bubble. For developers working in their own codebase, Cursor. And for web apps and games from a chat, voice note or screenshot, with hosting and your own domain included, VibeDream, which is our product.

Checked: Oct 2026. Every price and feature below comes from the company's own pricing page or documentation on that date. AI builders change pricing often, so confirm before you buy.

How we compared them

We are VibeDream, so we have an obvious interest. To keep this useful, every claim about another product comes from its own pricing page or docs, and each tool gets our honest pick and its main catch. We have not included user counts, ratings or performance claims we cannot check.

We compared each builder on five things:

  • How you build: chat, visual editor or code.
  • Backend: whether data and login come built in or you bring them.
  • Hosting and domains: whether the tool puts your app online, and what a custom domain needs.
  • Code: whether you can read, export or sync it.
  • Price: the cheapest plan that is useful for a real project.

The best way to choose is still to build the same small app on two or three of them. A good test prompt is at the end of this page.

Quick picks by need

  • Best for non-coders building a web app with logins: Lovable.
  • Best for internal tools with business integrations: Base44.
  • Best for learning to code with an agent: Replit.
  • Best for polished interfaces on Vercel: v0.
  • Best free tier for experimenting: Bolt.new.
  • Best for web plus mobile from a chat: Emergent.
  • Best for complex visual no-code and native mobile: Bubble.
  • Best for developers in their own codebase: Cursor.
  • Best for games as well as apps, with voice and screenshot prompts: VibeDream.

The 9 builders, one by one

Lovable

Lovable writes React web apps from a chat. When the app needs data or accounts, you switch on Lovable Cloud, which Lovable lists as a database, storage, authentication, realtime and functions on Supabase's open-source foundation. Git sync with GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket is on every plan.

Our pick for most non-coders building a web app with logins. The free plan gives 5 build credits a day, up to 30 a month, and Pro is $25 a month, or $21 billed yearly, for 100 credits. The catch is that custom domains and editing code inside Lovable start on Pro, and a big request costs more credits than a small one.

Replit

Replit is a development environment in the browser with an AI agent that writes, runs and deploys code in many languages. You can open the editor and shell whenever you like.

Pick Replit if you want to see the code, learn, or build things that are not web apps, like bots and APIs. Core is $20 a month, or $18 billed yearly, and Pro is $100. There is no free plan on the pricing page, and publishing is billed by deployment type in its docs, so the plan price is not the whole bill.

Bolt.new

Bolt, from StackBlitz, builds websites and apps from a chat and bills by AI tokens. Website hosting and databases are listed on every plan.

The roomiest free tier on this list: 1M tokens a month with a 300K daily limit. Pro is $18 a month billed yearly for 10M tokens that roll over, which suits people who build in bursts. Free sites carry Bolt branding, and token use per request grows as the project gets bigger.

v0

v0 is Vercel's AI builder. It writes apps with Next.js, Tailwind and shadcn/ui, offers a visual Design Mode, syncs with GitHub and deploys to Vercel.

If interface quality matters most and you already deploy on Vercel, v0 is the strongest tool here. The free plan allows 7 messages a day; Plus is $30 per user a month with $30 of monthly credits. You connect your own backend, and hosting is a Vercel bill.

Base44

Base44 builds full apps from a description, with backend, database, login, analytics and integrations on every plan, and two-way GitHub sync from its Builder plan.

Base44 is the one to beat for internal tools that send email or update a CRM, because Gmail, Slack and HubSpot actions come with every plan. Free gives 25 message credits a month; Starter is $16 a month billed yearly. You track two credit pools, messages and integrations, and GitHub sync starts at the $40 Builder plan.

Emergent

Emergent builds full-stack web and mobile apps from a chat, with databases and APIs set up for you and GitHub integration on paid plans.

Choose Emergent if a phone app is part of the plan. Free gives 10 credits a month and Standard is $20 a month for 100 credits. Budget for hosting: Emergent's docs say a live app costs 50 to 1,100 credits a month depending on its publishing tier, so two apps can use a Standard plan's whole allowance.

Bubble

Bubble is the long-running visual no-code platform, with its own database, workflows and hosting, an AI agent that drafts apps in its editor, and native mobile publishing on paid plans.

Still the deepest visual builder, and the one for complex logic and native mobile apps if you will put in the learning time. The free plan is for development only; a live app and custom domain start on Starter at $59 a month billed yearly. Apps live in Bubble's editor rather than as code you can export.

Cursor

Cursor is a coding agent with an IDE, desktop app, CLI and cloud agents that work in your own repositories. Since October 2026 its plans are bundled with Grok and X features.

For developers, or people serious about learning, Cursor is the agent to use inside a real codebase. Plus is $8 a month with Grok models only, and Premium is $30 with third-party models billed at API price on top. It does not host the apps you build or give you a backend.

VibeDream

VibeDream builds web apps with React + FastAPI and games with Phaser from a chat, a voice note or a screenshot, with a live preview in seconds. Put it online gives you a vibedreams.ai address, and your own domain takes a TXT and a CNAME record with HTTPS switched on for you. Every file is in the Code tab, with ZIP export and GitHub sync. Seven templates, from a waitlist that saves signups to a blank React and FastAPI starter, are in the template gallery.

The one to pick for games as well as apps, voice and screenshot prompts, and a short path to your own domain. All Access Mini is $49 a month with 60 credits and All Access is $97 with 150; there is no free plan, and each publish costs 5 credits. Built-in login and database are live, one-tap payments are coming soon, and it does not build native app-store apps.

Where VibeDream ranks, and why

We would not call VibeDream the best app builder for everyone, and nobody should. It is the best fit for a specific person: someone who wants to describe an app or a game, sometimes by voice or with a screenshot, see it live in seconds, and put it on their own domain without dealing with a host. Games are the clearest difference: none of the other builders here present game-making as a headline feature on their pricing pages.

It is not the best pick if you need built-in real card payments today, a free plan (most others do), native store apps (Bubble or Emergent), or a full coding environment (Replit or Cursor). Our pricing page lists exactly what each plan includes.

How to choose

Ask yourself these questions in order: 1. Do I want to work with code? If yes, start with Replit or Cursor. If no, keep going. 2. Do I need a native app in the app stores? If yes, look at Bubble or Emergent. 3. Do I need logins and stored data managed for me right now? If yes, Lovable or Base44. 4. Is it a game, or partly a game? If yes, VibeDream. 5. Is it mostly a beautiful front end on top of services I already have? If yes, v0. 6. Do I want to try lots of ideas cheaply first? If yes, Bolt.new's free tier.

Then run one test on your top two. Use this prompt: "A booking page for my dog grooming studio with services, prices and a booking form that saves requests, and an admin page that lists them." Note minutes to a working preview, follow-ups needed, what it cost, and whether a test booking survives a reload. Our head-to-heads, such as Replit vs Lovable, Base44 vs Lovable and Cursor vs Lovable, go deeper on each pair, and the comparisons page lists them all. If you only need a one-page site, read our Carrd alternatives guide first; you may not need an app builder at all.
