Emergent alternatives, compared by what one small app costs in month one

Emergent alternatives compared the practical way: one small booking app, built and kept live for its first month, priced on Emergent, Lovable, Bolt.new, Replit, VibeDream and Rork using only their published prices. Checked October 2026.

Emergent alternatives, compared by what one small app costs in month one

The strongest Emergent alternatives are Lovable and Bolt.new for chat-built web apps with hosting included, Replit if you want to see and run the code yourself, VibeDream if you want the same React and FastAPI stack with a per-publish hosting charge instead of a monthly fee per app, and Rork if the goal is a native app in the App Store. Which one is cheapest depends on how many apps you keep online, so this guide prices one concrete app instead of comparing plan cards.

The test case is deliberately modest: a class-booking app for a small studio, built over a few evenings and kept live for its first month with a handful of later edits. Every number below is a published price, checked Oct 2026 on each official pricing page. None of it is a measured build, because no builder publishes what a given prompt will cost and we have not invented one.

The app we are pricing

A booking app for a small yoga studio. Visitors see the week's classes, pick one and book with name and email. Each class has a capacity and shows spots left. The owner has an admin page to add classes, see bookings and cancel a class.

It needs a front end, a backend with saved data, a public address and ideally a custom domain. That rules nothing out, but it makes hosting part of the bill on every tool, which is exactly where Emergent differs.

Month one on Emergent, about $20

Standard is $20 a month with 100 credits. Emergent says a prompt can use a handful of credits or hundreds, so assume the build and edits take around half. Keeping the app live on the entry publishing tier costs 50 credits a month. That fills the 100 exactly. The bill is $20, or $17 a month on yearly billing, with no room for a second live app. Month two costs the same 50 credits of hosting whether you change anything or not. Details are in our Emergent pricing guide.

The same app on five alternatives

  • Lovable, about $25. Pro starts at $25 a month for 100 credits. Hosting and the Lovable Cloud backend draw from your credit balance, and paid plans include a monthly grant of 20 Cloud credits that Lovable says covers most small apps. Public publishing and a custom domain need a paid plan.
  • Bolt.new, $18 a month on annual billing. Pro is $216 a year with 10 million tokens a month that roll over, hosting, a database and a custom domain included. If you will not commit to a year, check the monthly price on bolt.new/pricing before you start.
  • Replit, about $20 plus usage. Core is $20 a month, or $18 billed yearly, and includes $20 of credits. Agent work and deployments are billed against that, then pay as you go, so a busy build month can cost more.
  • VibeDream, $49. All Access Mini is $49 a month with 60 credits and up to 3 active projects. Putting the app online costs 5 credits, and each later update another 5, with hosting, HTTPS and a your-app.vibedreams.ai address included. There is no free plan.
  • Rork, about $20 plus store fees, for a native version instead. Rork's paid plans start around $20 a month, and an App Store listing also needs Apple's Developer Program at $99 a year.

On one app in month one, Emergent is among the cheapest options, and VibeDream is not. The picture changes with scale. Three small apps live on Emergent's entry tier take 150 credits a month before any building, which pushes you to Pro at $200 or to top-ups. On VibeDream the same three apps cost 15 credits in total to publish, and nothing per month while they sit unchanged.

Beyond the bill, what each one is like

Lovable

The most polished interfaces of the group and a large community. Its backend runs on Lovable Cloud, built on Supabase, rather than Python. Pick it if design quality matters most. Our Lovable alternatives guide covers where it is weaker.

Bolt.new

Runs the whole project in your browser and shows the files as it works, which suits people who like to watch the code. Token-based billing rewards short, focused prompts.

Replit

A real development environment with an agent attached. Any language, any framework, a terminal, and deployments a click away. Pick it if you or a teammate will write code alongside the agent.

VibeDream

The closest match to Emergent's stack: a React front end and a FastAPI backend in Python you can read in the built-in code editor, downloadable as a ZIP or synced to GitHub. You can describe the app by typing, a voice note or a picture, and it also builds Phaser games. Your own domain works on www or a subdomain with a TXT and a CNAME record. Two honest gaps: one-tap payments are coming soon, and it builds web apps for phone browsers, not store apps.

Each publish or update costs 5 credits. There is no monthly fee per live app.

Rork

Builds native Swift apps for Apple devices and Kotlin apps for Android, with an App Store reviewer and screenshot tools for launch. If the store is the point, it is more direct than Emergent's mobile option. See the Rork review.

Which alternative to pick

  • One web app and the lowest bill: stay on Emergent Standard, or try Bolt.new on annual billing.
  • Several small web apps kept online for months: a per-publish model like VibeDream's costs less over time than a monthly fee per app.
  • Design-led marketing sites and simple apps: Lovable.
  • You want to code too: Replit.
  • A native app in the App Store: Rork, or Emergent's own mobile builds.

Moving a project off Emergent

  • On Standard or above, connect GitHub and use Save to GitHub to push the project to a repository.
  • Export the data. Emergent apps commonly use MongoDB, so plan how the records move into the new tool's database.
  • List every environment variable and outside service the app calls, including any AI features using Emergent's Universal LLM Key, which will need your own key elsewhere.
  • Rebuild or import on the new platform, test each screen, then point your domain at it.
  • Shut the Emergent app down only after the new one is live. That stops its hosting fee without deleting the project.
